PROFILE

Born to hard-working parents of a lower middle-class family on the outskirts of Melbourne, Jack Wilson was taught early in life the values of discipline, dignity, honor and professionalism, traits that would stand him in good stead for his first taste of big-time professional wrestling.

An intellectually bright and athletic kid, Wilson excelled at any sport he tried, and represented his school and country at various sporting carnivals. Although he loved sports, Wilson held a special interest for martial arts, primarily through movies such as Karate Kid and Once upon a time in China. Luckily for him, his parents were openly supportive. His mum enlisted the help of her cousin, a professional wrestler / trainer known as ‘The Convict’, to give young Wilson a taste of life inside the arena. By now, Wilson had nearly completed his training in Muay Thai and Wing Chun, and ‘Convict’ decided to further broaden Wilson’s martial arts education by sending him to a former colleague, Hirosuke “Tora” Takahashi, the revered “Submission Sensei”.

Under Takahashi’s tutelage, Wilson mastered various throws and grapple holds which he absorbed into his near-complete mixed fighting style. Back at Convict’s gym, Wilson began to beef up and learn further basic moves. Dubbing himself "Wilson the Wunderkind", he made his debut in his second uncle’s gym shortly after turning 18. Right from the start people could see in young Wilson a resilience and potential for future greatness. Ever the perceptive trainer, Convict suggested the need for more hard-edge aggression as well as a name change, and so the stage name Mr. Mean was born.

Slowly but surely the reputation of Mr Mean began to grow. One day an important visitor and friend of ‘Convict’ randomly popped by to watch one of the shows. As it turned out, the visitor was a GM scouting for some new talent to sign up to his roster. After watching Mr Mean, the GM went over to ‘Convict’ and inquired about him.

So Convict, who’s that Mr Mean guy?

Oh, that’s my nephew. He’s not half bad eh?

No, not bad at all. I’m wondering if I can talk to him for a minute.

Sure. You’ll find him in the locker room with the other wrestlers.

Cool thanks.

The GM heads over to the locker room and calls out

Hi guys, can I speak to the wrestler called Mr Mean?

That would be me.

Hi, my name's Chasm and I’m a GM from the Hard Knocks Roster.

Nice to meet you. (Shakes hands)

Can I have a minute of your time?

Sure. What’s the deal?

I just saw your performance this afternoon and was most impressed. I think you’ve got the potential to become something huge, and I want to get my hands on you before any other GM comes around. In case you don’t know, the Hard Knocks roster is part of the WGI fed and is about to finish its ninth season. We're based in Canada and our fan base is continually growing. I think you would be the perfect fit as a potential superstar.

Wow, Canada... that's a long way away. So that means you’re offering me a contract?

It sure does. I’ll be down here for a couple of days before I have to fly back, so come and see me and we can get the paperwork sorted out there and then. Your uncle will have my address.

Sounds great. Thanks for the offer and I’ll see you soon then.

A couple of days later, stuffed with luggage and tearful goodbyes from parents, Wilson boarded a plane headed for Canada to start the next phase of his life and career.

This being his first time on a federation roster, Mr Mean hopes to enjoy himself, learn from his peers, and make a lasting impression. He is confident that his professional and uncompromising approach will win over many fans. A true wrestler in spirit, winning is not as important to Mr Mean as pulling off a series of great moves and making the fans go wild.
